The story of The Citrologist Gin begins with friendship. Paul and Malcolm first met at Aberdeen University in 1979. Decades later, a 60th birthday gin-making experience sparked a shared passion that led them to establish The Wildings Distillery in Galashiels.
Today, they create small-batch Scottish gins with a particular love of fresh citrus. Their gins are made using whole fresh fruit, botanicals, zest and juice — with no dried citrus, oils, extracts, flavourings or colourings.
The range includes the juniper-forward Citrologist Scottish Dry Gin, alongside citrus-led favourites such as Lemon, Key Lime and Pink Grapefruit. Seasonal Special Editions have featured unusual fruits including Yuzu, Buddha’s Hand, Makrut Lime and Tarocco Blood Orange.
The distillery also has a strong family connection to Scottish distilling. Malcolm’s late father and uncles worked at Dalmore Distillery, adding another chapter to a long family tradition.
What began with two university friends has grown into a family-run Galashiels distillery, bringing together friendship, craftsmanship, Scottish heritage and a genuine passion for gin.
